We recently spent a couple of days in Gananoque with Garry Fisher trying to get the late fall smallies to cooperate. No luck on that front but we did manage to get some great aerials of the area and convince a nice sized walleye to come aboard just as the sun was setting on the river. Back again next week to try again! We were recently back in Gananoque, part of The Great Waterway, to experience the musky fishing the St. Lawrence River is famous for. Teaming up with Dave Curtis of Fishing Fanatic Guide Service and Musky Ace Roy Brunner, we spent two beautiful, late summer days on the river trolling for these magnificent fish. While working our five line trolling program we managed to land a couple of nice northern pike, a fat walleye and finally a big 47 inch musky that appeared to have just recently fed. Bill with Musky Ace Roy Brunner and Dave Curtis of Fishing Fanatic Guide Service with a nice St Lawrence pike. This was the last of four we caught on the trip. One of the first pike boated. This one had beautiful patterning and hit aggressively enough to lead us to believe we had our first musky on .. A nice sized fish anywhere, this walleye hit a large musky bait being trolled at almost 4.5 miles per hour. Alan holding a pike with Dave Curtis looking on. All in all a great trip and although we only managed to boat one musky we had two others hit (one jumping clear out of the water and spitting the hooks) and had a chance to see how big these fish can grow. We're looking forward to going back before the end of the season to try to hook into one 50 inches or better! |
